14-Year-Old Bulawayo Pupil Sentenced for Series of Car Thefts, Including Vehicle Stolen from Police Station
A 14-year-old high school student from Bulawayo has been sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of stealing multiple vehicles, including a Honda Fit taken from a police station.
The teenager, whose identity cannot be revealed because he is a minor, appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Ms Patience Ururu. He was found guilty of three counts of vehicle theft following a string of incidents that occurred over several weeks in different parts of the city.
According to court proceedings, the young offender targeted Honda Fit vehicles parked in various suburbs around Bulawayo.
Prosecutor Ms Concilia Ncube told the court that the first theft occurred on 26 April 2026 when the teenager allegedly stole a grey Honda Fit from a car park in Entumbane. Three days later, he reportedly stole another Honda Fit from a car park in Nkulumane. The vehicle was allegedly driven during the night before being abandoned after running out of fuel.
The court also heard that another Honda Fit disappeared from a car park in Emakhandeni the following day.
Although the accused faced four counts of vehicle theft, the court convicted him on three counts after ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove his involvement in one of the cases involving a recovered vehicle.
One of the most shocking incidents involved a Honda Fit belonging to a police officer. On 12 May 2026, the teenager allegedly entered Entumbane Police Station and stole the vehicle from the station premises. He reportedly drove the car around for nearly a week before abandoning it.
Detectives later tracked down the suspect and recovered evidence linking him to the thefts. Following his arrest, he admitted to the offences, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
The case has raised concerns about juvenile crime and vehicle security, particularly after a vehicle was successfully stolen from within a police station.
