BEITBRIDGE MAN IN COURT AFTER ‘SINGLE MOTHERS’ ROW TURNS VIOLENT

A Beitbridge man allegedly refused to have intimate relations with his wife because he disapproved of her friendships with single mothers, before a heated domestic dispute allegedly turned violent.

Stanford Jacobs, 30, appeared before Beitbridge Magistrate Gillian Padzakashamba facing an assault charge.

He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody pending sentencing.

The court heard that Jacobs was unhappy with his wife, Panashe Tagwirei, 24, for associating with unmarried women, particularly single mothers.

Trouble allegedly erupted on August 24 at the couple's home in New Medium Density when Tagwirei attempted to serve her husband supper.

However, Jacobs allegedly refused the food and told her to give it to “the people she was supposed to serve”.

INTIMACY QUESTION SPARKS DRAMA

According to the State, Tagwirei later confronted her husband and asked whether his unhappiness over her friendships was the reason he had been denying her conjugal rights.

She reportedly suggested that they should separate peacefully if he no longer loved her.

But the conversation allegedly took a violent turn.

Jacobs allegedly slapped Tagwirei several times, grabbed her by the collar and dragged her.

The court also heard that he allegedly tore her blouse and removed her trousers, leaving her dressed only in tights and a bra.

A passerby reportedly intervened before the alleged assault could continue.

Jacobs remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
