Baby Naomi’s Family Appeals For Help As Life-Saving Liver Transplant Beckons

A one-year-old Zimbabwean girl is fighting for her life as her family races against time to raise funds for a life-saving liver transplant in India. Naomi Chigwada urgently needs surgery that cannot currently be performed in Zimbabwe, leaving her parents with no option but to seek treatment abroad. Her story has drawn support from medical professionals and members of the public, who are appealing for donations and shares to help the family reach their goal.

Zimbabwe Doctors Appeal For Support As Baby Naomi Needs Liver Transplant
On 18 July 2026, paediatric surgeon and children’s healthcare advocate Dr Mai Ropa used X to appeal for public support for Naomi’s fundraiser.

Introducing the appeal, Dr Mai Ropa said:

“Naomi, just 1 year old, is bravely fighting liver failure, but Zimbabwe’s medical facilities can’t perform the life-saving transplant she urgently needs.”

She added:

“Her family needs to travel to India for the surgery, which can happen quickly with your support. Even a small share or donation can help ease the overwhelming costs and give Naomi a real chance at recovery.”

Dr Mai Ropa also stressed the urgency of the situation.

“Please consider sharing or donating to help her get the care she deserves—time is critical. Every bit makes a difference during this urgent moment.”

Naomi’s Family Turns To GoFundMe For Urgent Medical Help
According to the GoFundMe campaign, Naomi is the daughter of Samson and Confidence Chigwada and has been battling liver failure despite being only one year old.

The fundraiser explains that Zimbabwe does not currently have the facilities needed to perform the transplant she requires. Instead, the family plans to travel to India, where one of Naomi’s parents can serve as a living donor, allowing the operation to proceed without a lengthy waiting list once funding is secured.

Campaign organiser Rebecca Mundopa said the money raised will cover the transplant, medical expenses, travel and accommodation for Naomi’s parents while they remain in India for treatment.


The campaign also encourages people who cannot donate to share the fundraiser or offer words of encouragement, saying every contribution could make a difference during this critical period.
