HARARE –Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa** has launched a strong attack on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), describing it as a dangerous political project that could undermine Zimbabwe's democratic future.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Chamisa accused supporters of the proposed constitutional amendment of disregarding the wishes of ordinary Zimbabweans while pursuing what he called a self-serving political agenda.

"Zimbabwe needs a citizens' government," Chamisa said.

"There can be no legitimate government without the consent of #WeTheCitizens who are governed."

The opposition leader argued that CAB3 prioritizes political interests over national development and warned that the proposed changes could have far-reaching consequences for the country.

"There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently what is fundamentally wrong. CAB3 is the wrong move, a misguided initiative and a selfish national mistake," he said.

"Far from delivering value, it is an absolute waste of time and resources."

Chamisa further cautioned that those driving the amendment process could eventually face resistance from citizens who oppose efforts to alter constitutional provisions for political advantage.

"Its consequences will be severe and may ultimately consume those who conceived and championed it," he warned.

He also rejected both the amendment process and its anticipated outcomes, claiming that the exercise was being manipulated from the outset.

"#WeTheCitizens reject CAB3, all its flawed processes and choreographed outcomes. This is the new front of the struggle for a New Great Zimbabwe," Chamisa said.

Calling for greater civic participation, Chamisa urged Zimbabweans to organize around a citizen-led vision for the country's future.

"The future belongs to organized citizens. We organize. We engage. We build. Come, let us reason together."

CAB3 has sparked intense debate across Zimbabwe's political landscape, with critics alleging that the proposed amendment could pave the way for the extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's tenure beyond 2028. Supporters of the bill, however, argue that the changes are necessary for governance reforms and national development.

As discussions continue, the proposed constitutional amendment remains one of the most contentious political issues facing Zimbabwe.
