INSIZA — Nine primary schools in the Shangani Cluster of Insiza North, Matabeleland South Province, have received financial assistance to facilitate the transportation of Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) examination scripts to the designated collection point.
The schools, which are located in remote areas, faced difficulties transporting Paper 1 examination scripts to Umzingwane, more than 150 kilometres away.
The logistical challenge prompted School Development Committees (SDCs) to seek urgent assistance from the Sikhanyisiwe Nkomo Foundation, which responded with a **US$220 donation** to cover transportation costs.
The money was used to hire a commuter omnibus that transported nine deputy heads representing the affected schools to Umzingwane to deliver the examination material.
The beneficiary schools are Debshan Primary School in Ward 13, T.M. Pagama Primary School, Rusibe Primary School, Shangani Mine Primary School in Ward 23, Ensango Primary School, St Lucy Primary School in Ward 22, Siyazama Primary School, Lochard Primary School and Inyozani Primary School in Ward 14.
School heads and SDC representatives welcomed the intervention, saying it had helped ensure that the examination scripts were delivered safely and on time.
One SDC representative expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying the donation had come at a critical time for the schools.
The Sikhanyisiwe Nkomo Foundation, led by Zanu-PF member Sikhanyisiwe Nkomo, said the intervention was part of its broader humanitarian and educational support programmes aimed at complementing Government development initiatives in Insiza District.
Nkomo also wished learners sitting for examinations success, urging parents and communities to continue working together to support pupils.
“I wish all learners who are writing examinations well. May God remind them of all they learnt throughout the year,” she said.
She also encouraged parents to embrace unity and cooperation, quoting Psalm 133 in calling for communities to live and work together in harmony.
The foundation has previously supported communities in Insiza through initiatives targeting schools and vulnerable households.
The latest intervention highlights the logistical challenges faced by schools in remote parts of Zimbabwe, where long distances and limited transport options can complicate the movement of examination materials to designated centres.
