Four Dogs Fatally Attack Harare Man in Southerton

A 39-year-old Harare man was mauled to death by four security dogs in Southerton on Thursday evening, with police arresting two people as investigations into the fatal attack continue.

Malcom Takudzwa Muzavazi was attacked on September 24, 2026, between 6pm and 6:30pm along a footpath between the ZESA Holdings durawall and a car sale in Southerton.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the dogs involved were a male Belgian Malinois and three Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd crossbreeds.

“The ZRP confirms the death of Malcom Takudzwa Muzavazi (39), who was fatally attacked by four dogs on 24/09/2026 between 1800 and 1830 hours along a footpath between the ZESA Holdings durawall and a car sale in Southerton, Harare,” police said.

The dogs were reportedly being handled by a private security guard who had released them from their kennels for feeding when they attacked Muzavazi.

The incident has raised concerns over the control and handling of security dogs, particularly in areas accessible to members of the public.

Police have arrested the security guard, Mannex Svova, 21, and the co-owner of the car sale, Itai Tamirepi, 43.

Investigations are continuing as police seek to establish exactly how the dogs escaped control and attacked Muzavazi.

Authorities are also expected to examine whether adequate safety measures were in place to protect members of the public from the security animals.
