BREAKING: St Mary’s Suicide Attempt Averted After Tense Negotiations
By Staff Reporter
A young man from Chitungwiza Road, near Huruyadzo Shopping Centre in St Mary’s, was talked down by the Fire Brigade this afternoon after climbing a tower light with the intention of taking his own life.
The situation took an unexpected turn when the man demanded money before agreeing to come down. Authorities initially offered $10, but he refused, calling it too little. An additional $5 was offered, bringing the total to $15, after which he finally agreed to descend.
He was safely brought down and taken into police custody for further assessment.
While some community members suspect drug abuse may have played a role, others believe his emotional state was influenced by spiritual distress. It’s reported that his cousin, whom he lived with, recently died after being stabbed at home in Chitungwiza.
