CHITUNGWIZA – A 33-year-old Chitungwiza man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly drove his vehicle into his sister's former landlady following a dispute over outstanding rental payments.
The suspect, Marvelous Sihlangu, allegedly struck Tafadzwa Chiriseri (27) with a Toyota March along Mafukachuma Road in Zengeza 2 on Monday, leaving her with fractures to both legs. She was rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
Harare Provincial Police spokesperson **Inspector Luckmore Chakanza** confirmed the arrest and said the incident stemmed from a dispute over unpaid rent involving Sihlangu's sister, **Nomisilo Nyathi**.
According to police, Chiriseri had gone to Nyathi's residence to demand payment of outstanding rentals. After Nyathi reportedly failed to settle the debt, Chiriseri allegedly removed sofas from the house and loaded them onto a pushcart while seeking assistance from another family member.
Police said Sihlangu later arrived at the house after being informed of the dispute. An altercation allegedly broke out between him and Chiriseri, during which the woman is accused of biting his left middle finger before leaving the scene.
Investigators allege that the two later encountered each other along Mafukachuma Road as Sihlangu was driving towards Chitungwiza Hospital. It is alleged that Sihlangu deliberately drove into Chiriseri, causing serious injuries.
Inspector Chakanza said Sihlangu was arrested shortly after the incident and is facing attempted murder charges.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
