Retired Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Major General Everisto Dzihwema has died at the age of 63 after receiving medical treatment in India.
The Zimbabwe National Army confirmed his passing in a statement issued on Friday, June 27, with Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Hlengiwe Dube announcing the news on behalf of Commander Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant-General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi.
"The Commander Zimbabwe National Army, Lieutenant-General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, regrets to announce the untimely death of Major General (Retired) Everisto Dzihwema," Colonel Dube said.
Major General (Retired) Dzihwema died in India, where he had been undergoing medical treatment. The nature of his illness was not disclosed.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Dzihwema, and their three children.
Mourners are gathered at the family home at House Number 5535, Zimre Park, Ruwa, as funeral preparations continue.
The Zimbabwe National Army said details of the burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
Major General (Retired) Dzihwema was one of the Zimbabwe National Army's senior retired officers, and his death marks the loss of a respected military leader who served the country for many years.
