Milton High School Proposes 'Bulawayo High' as schools move to adopt heritage-based identities
By Desmond Nleya
Government schools with colonial-era names are scrambling to adopt new identities in line with the government’s heritage-based education policy.
A circular seen by this publication shows that Northlea High School has called for an urgent meeting today, 15 May 2026, to deliberate on a possible name change.
Meanwhile, Milton High School is proposing to change its name to Bulawayo High School as part of the ongoing transition.
The move comes as authorities push schools to align with the national heritage-based education framework, which seeks to promote local history, culture, and identity through institutional reforms.
Several schools across the country are reportedly reviewing their names, particularly those linked to the colonial era, amid growing calls to embrace indigenous heritage and national values.
