Dubai- Washington: At least 16 United States military sites across eight Middle Eastern countries were damaged during the recent conflict involving Iran, according to a CNN investigation.
The report states that the strikes, carried out by Iran and its allied forces since the outbreak of hostilities on February 28, affected a significant portion of America’s military infrastructure in the region. Some facilities were reportedly left so badly damaged that they may no longer be operational.
Citing a congressional aide familiar with internal assessments, the report highlights varying levels of destruction — from severe damage requiring shutdowns to sites considered repairable due to their strategic importance.
Satellite imagery and intelligence sources indicate that Iran primarily targeted high-value assets, including advanced radar systems, communication networks, and aircraft stationed at key bases. These systems are not only costly but also difficult to replace, making them critical vulnerabilities.
Among the locations hit were the Al Udeid Air Base, where a runway sustained damage, and Ali Al Salem Air Base. A munitions storage facility at a base in northern Iraq was also reportedly struck.
The financial toll of the conflict is mounting. Acting Pentagon Comptroller Jules Hurst III told lawmakers that the war has already cost US taxpayers approximately $25 billion.
In addition, repairs to the headquarters of the United States Navy Fifth Fleet could reach up to $200 million, according to estimates shared with The New York Times.
An external analysis by the American Enterprise Institute further supports claims that Iranian strikes were strategically aimed at weakening US operational capabilities across the region.
