Man Stabbed Over Goat Meat Debt
By A Correspondent – A disagreement over a small unpaid balance for goat meat turned violent, resulting in a Chimanimani man being jailed for six years.
Garikai Tirivangani (34) was sentenced after admitting to attempted murder when he appeared before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court.
The matter was heard by magistrate Mr Bishard Chineka, while prosecutor Mr Isaac Tangwena represented the State.
According to court proceedings, the altercation took place on March 29 at Madongonda tuckshops, located within the Chimanimani National Park vicinity.
It was revealed that Tirivangani had bought goat meat valued at US$30 from Trymore Nyowana, but only paid US$20, leaving a US$10 balance.
When Nyowana demanded the remaining money, the situation quickly escalated into a confrontation.
During the clash, one of Nyowana’s associates attacked Tirivangani with a machete.
Tirivangani then retaliated by stabbing Nyowana once in the abdomen using an okapi knife.
Nyowana sustained serious injuries and was left in a critical state following the incident.
The weapon used in the attack was later recovered and submitted in court as part of the evidence.
