Christ Embassy pastor in US$7 200 fraud
by Staff reporter
A 42-year-old pastor affiliated with Christ Embassy has appeared in court facing allegations of defrauding a workmate of US$7 200 in a botched vehicle import deal.
Kudakwashe Singizi appeared before a Harare magistrate charged with fraud. The complainant in the matter is Mukanhairi Ropafadzo.
The court heard that although the two are not related, they were operating from the same shop at the time the alleged offence was committed.
Prosecutor Mr Takudzwa Mutyavaviri told the court that on July 16, 2025, at Shasha Mall, located at the corner of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue and Leopold Takawira Street in Harare, Singizi allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that he was an agent for BE FORWARD and could facilitate the purchase and importation of a motor vehicle on her behalf.
Acting on the alleged misrepresentation, Ropafadzo indicated that she intended to purchase a Honda Vezel. The court heard that Singizi carried out calculations and advised that he required US$7 200 to import and deliver the vehicle.
Ropafadzo allegedly handed over the US$7 200 in cash, and Singizi undertook to deliver the vehicle within three months.
However, after the agreed period lapsed, the vehicle had not been delivered. The complainant is said to have demanded delivery, but Singizi allegedly became evasive, offering unclear and inconsistent explanations.
The court further heard that the accused later promised to refund the money but failed to do so. The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to investigations and his arrest.
The complainant reportedly suffered financial prejudice amounting to US$7 200, and nothing has been recovered to date.
The matter was remanded to a later date for continuation of proceedings.
