Early-Planted Crops Reach Maturity in Matabeleland North

By Staff Reporter

MATABELELAND North is poised for a strong harvest season, with the Agriculture and Rural Development Advisory Service (Ardas) confirming that early-planted crops have reached full maturity across most districts in the province.

Ardas Matabeleland North provincial director, Mr Mkhunjulelwa Ndlovu, said the majority of fields are in excellent condition, raising hopes for improved household food security and rewarding farmers for their dedication throughout the season.

“While the progress is encouraging, the work is not yet complete,” said Mr Ndlovu. “Farmers who planted later must continue with critical tasks such as weeding and applying top-dressing fertiliser to ensure their crops develop fully.”

He also urged farmers cultivating traditional grains to intensify bird scaring and conduct regular pest inspections to avoid losses as the crops approach harvest stage.

Mr Ndlovu stressed that sustained effort during these final weeks is essential.

“By remaining vigilant against pests and diseases at this stage, communities can turn this promising growth into a potentially record-breaking harvest for Matabeleland North,” he said.
