A nurse based in Plumtree is facing allegations of swindling residents, colleagues and parents out of thousands of US dollars through promises of nursing school placements and requests for financial assistance.
Eustina Tshuma is accused of borrowing money from various people, allegedly using stories about sick parents, while others claim she charged fees to help secure places for aspiring student nurses.
Some complainants allege that Tshuma charged up to US$1,500 to facilitate admission into nursing schools, particularly Brunapeg Mission in Mangwe District.
Several parents reportedly sold goats and cattle to raise money for their children’s education, hoping to secure nursing training opportunities through the alleged arrangement.
The growing number of complaints has prompted alleged victims to form a WhatsApp group named “Scammed by Eustina”, where they share their experiences and discuss reporting the matter to the police.
One complainant alleges that Tshuma owes her US$820, while another claims the nurse has failed to settle a debt despite a court order directing her to make payment.
A parent from Bulawayo also alleges that the family paid Tshuma US$1,000 to secure a nursing school place. Of that amount, US$600 has reportedly been repaid.
Plumtree Ward 1 councillor Godfrey Ngwenya confirmed that some complainants had approached him seeking assistance in recovering their money.
Meanwhile, Tshuma’s parents reportedly expressed disappointment over the allegations against their daughter.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Tshuma were unsuccessful.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and Tshuma has not had an opportunity to respond to the claims in the information provided.
