Harare Domestic Disputes Turn Deadly as Second Murder-Suicide Hits City

The Mukumbura case comes amid growing concern over a string of deadly domestic disputes in Harare, with another fatal incident involving Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Commissioner Martin Muduva and his wife reported earlier this month.

Muduva was killed after his wife, 43-year-old nurse Lyliosa Chirara, allegedly struck him twice with an axe while he was asleep at their home in Dzivarasekwa Extension on the night of September 8, 2026.

Chirara later died after ingesting poison, turning the incident into a suspected murder-suicide.

Reports indicate that the dispute was linked to tensions surrounding Muduva's decision to pay lobola to formalise his relationship with his second wife, Vongai Patience Mangwiro, with whom he had reportedly been in a five-year relationship.

The latest case has once again drawn attention to the potentially fatal consequences of unresolved disputes within families and intimate relationships.
