......as School Principal is arrested over unpaid grade seven examinations fees

HARARE — A principal at Emirates Primary School in Retreat, Waterfalls, has been arrested over allegations that examination fees paid by parents for 41 Grade Seven learners were not remitted to the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC).
The learners were initially at risk of missing their examinations, which began yesterday, after the school failed to secure an examination centre.
Parents and guardians met ZIMSEC officials following the dispute, resulting in arrangements for the affected learners to sit for the examinations at another school.
Emirates Academy reportedly transferred fees for only six learners registered at Hatfield Primary School, where examination centre arrangements were in place.
The school’s owner, identified as Pereka, confirmed the matter, saying efforts were underway to resolve the issue.
“Yes, our school is yet to register to become an examination centre but everything is being sorted,” he said.
Parents said they had paid the required examination fees and were not informed that the money had not been remitted.
