Harare – The Government of Zimbabwe has introduced a new incentive scheme to reward high-performing schools, beginning with the 2025 academic year, in a move aimed at promoting academic excellence across the country’s education system.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Torerayi Moyo, who said the initiative will see the top 10 best-performing schools in each province being officially recognised based on their 2025 pass rates at Grade Seven, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level.
“I am pleased to announce a new national initiative aimed at promoting and rewarding academic excellence across our education system,” Dr Moyo said. “As part of this initiative, my Ministry will recognise and award the top 10 best-performing schools in each province.”
He said the recognition would celebrate schools that consistently demonstrate strong academic results while also prioritising the holistic development of learners and the delivery of equitable, inclusive and quality education, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4.
In addition, the Ministry will identify and reward the top five best-performing schools nationally in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) and Cambridge examinations. These schools will be honoured at an awards ceremony scheduled for 20 March 2026.
According to Dr Moyo, the selected institutions will serve as “beacons of excellence and inspiration” for other schools across the country, setting benchmarks for quality education and academic performance.
The Minister also appealed to individuals, corporates, development partners and well-wishers to support the initiative through sponsorships, awards, grants and other forms of assistance.
“We welcome all forms of support that will help motivate our hardworking teachers and school heads,” he said. “Those wishing to contribute may contact the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education head office through official communication channels.”
The incentive programme comes as part of broader government efforts to strengthen Zimbabwe’s education sector and improve learner outcomes nationwide.
