All systems are in place for the Zanu-PF National Cell Day today, as the revolutionary party rolls out a nationwide programme aimed at strengthening its grassroots base and reinforcing internal structures.

Held under the theme “Advancing Vision 2030 through vibrant cell structures,” the initiative is a cornerstone of the party’s organisational strategy, focusing on unity, visibility and structural integrity. From 11:00AM to 1:30PM, millions of party members across the country are expected to gather at designated cell meeting points to participate in verification, mobilisation and recruitment activities.

In a symbolic demonstration of servant leadership and internal democracy, Zanu-PF First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, will attend the proceedings as an ordinary cell member. The President, accompanied by members of the First Family, is expected to convene at Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe, where he will listen to the cell chairperson’s address and contribute alongside fellow members.

This gesture reinforces the party’s founding principle that all leaders, including those at the highest level, are first and foremost members of a cell.

Provincial leaders who spoke to Zimpapers Political Hub confirmed that preparations across the country are complete and that party structures are fully mobilised for the day.

Midlands provincial chairman Cde Edson Chiherenge said the province is honoured to host the President, describing his participation as evidence of hands-on leadership.

“We are humbled to host the President on such an important day. His presence underscores his servant leadership style. We expect full attendance at all cell meeting points, with chairpersons leading discussions on verification and integration of new members, including those joining from the opposition,” said Cde Chiherenge.

In Harare, provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said the capital is ready, with over 11 000 cell structures and 289 party districts prepared for the meetings.

“All senior party members must submit to the authority of the cell chairperson. A healthy cell translates into a healthy party structure. We want authentic cells, not borrowed or parallel structures,” he said.

Cde Masimirembwa added that discussions will include reaffirming commitment to the party’s leadership and development agenda, noting that Harare province fully supports the extension of President Mnangagwa’s mandate beyond 2028.

“Our priority is to ensure that President Mnangagwa remains in office until 2030, while also addressing development projects within Harare,” he said.

Harare provincial secretary for information and publicity and Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Cde Tatenda Mavetera, described National Cell Day as a moment of revolutionary renewal.

“The cell is the heartbeat of the party. Vision 2030 must be driven from the grassroots. The President has consistently emphasised that the voice of the people is the voice of God, and today provides a platform to align national priorities with community needs,” she said.

Mashonaland West provincial chairperson Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka expressed confidence in the province’s over 10 000 cell structures, adding that monitoring mechanisms are in place to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.

Manicaland provincial chairman Cde Tawanda Mukodza highlighted the growth in cell structures and urged leadership to prioritise first-time voters, while Bulawayo provincial secretary for information and publicity Cde Archie Chiponda described the day as critical to future electoral success.

“This level of organisation is what translates into resounding electoral victories. It allows the party to assess readiness and ensure every member is prepared to vote for our mammoth party,” he said.

Introduced in 2022, National Cell Day has become a permanent feature on the Zanu-PF calendar, aimed at maintaining organisational stability and ensuring continuous mass mobilisation.

The cell remains the party’s most fundamental structure, comprising 50 members, led by a 21-member committee drawn equally from the Main Wing, Women’s League and Youth League, supported by 29 general members.

This framework ensures Zanu-PF remains a people-centred movement, where development initiatives and national policies are debated, understood and implemented at the most local level.
